Speaking in Tongues

Speaking In Tongues

The gift of tongues was a temporary sign gift that was given during the Apostolic age (Acts 2).

I Corinthians 13:4-10 says, “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” This says that they currently know in part, and that which is perfect is come the gifts will cease. The word there literally means “to render inoperative.” “That which is perfect,” is the reference to the Word of God, not Christ. When the Word of God is complete, there is no longer any other source needed for the communication of the Word of God to guide us. The Word of God made void the need of tongues. Mark 16:20 says that Jesus would confirm that apostles’ words with signs. This was one of the signs to affirm the apostles, however apostleship has ceased therefore there is no need for the gift. I Corinthians 1:22 says that they were signs for unbelieving Jews. Therefore, the modern ways that tongues are used are not Biblical in nature. Hebrews 2:3 says that the Word was confirmed through these gifts.

This is why at Fort Victory, we reject all speaking in tongues today.

Scripture is clear: “God is not the author of confusion.” But in our day, there is a great deal of confusion regarding the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues.
